Medical education regulator National Medical Commission (NMC) has for the first time introduced post-doctoral fellowship course in medical colleges regulated by it. The Commission hopes that this initiative will promote research and medical skill development. Till now, medical institutions were preparing and approving these courses at their own level to train doctors.
The regulator has recently notified the ‘Post-Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2023’. According to this, once the medical college gets permission to start a postgraduate course or seat, the course will be considered recognized.
Dr. Vijay Ojha, Chairman of PG Medical Education Board in NMC, said that this will solve many difficulties faced by students in registering their degree after passing the post graduation examination.
